01ST DECEMBER 2018: Gasometer "The Call of the Mountains"

The Gasometer is more than just an industrial monument. Since its decommissioning about twenty years ago it has developed into the landmark of the city of Oberhausen and, beyond that, it has become an entire region‘s identification sign that cannot be overlooked. The current exhibition „The Call of the Mountains“ It shows the many different facets of mountains and tells of the eternal fascination that these imposing landscapes exert on people at bleak heights where the air is thin. The highlight of the exhibition in the 100-metre high Gasometer is a monumental replica of the Matterhorn. It is an impressive staging of the legendary mountain with the aid of state-of-the-art 3D projections alternating between day and night and the seasons. The monumental sculpture hangs upside down in the huge space and is reflected in a large mirror in the top level of the Gasometer. The visit to the Gasometer is an experience that you shouldn‘t miss.

01ST February 2018: Parc Illumination Opening, Gruga Park

The extensive park, centrally positioned in Essen and the Ruhr region, offers great leisure opportunities for all generations throughout the year. The Grugapark Essen developed from the Great Ruhr Landscape Gardening Exhibition in 1929 and now, with its 700,000 square metres, is definitely one of the largest and most attractive leisure parks in Europe. It’s always peak season at the Grugapark, but certainly special is the “Parkleuchten” illuminations, starting in February. The rockeries in the Alpine garden glow magically after dusk and light art can be seen in every other treetop. The theme in 2019 will be “Märchenhaft schön”.
