International Research
Collaborative research
RUB receives over 110 million euros of external funding each year, and a good part of this is for collaborative research. This enables scientists to work together on a research topic over a long period of time at the highest international level using an interdisciplinary approach. We aim to further increase the number of collaborative research projects in the future.

Research School
RUB's Research School is the central contact point for all doctoral students on campus. Together with the Fakultäten (i.e. RUB's disciplinary institutional units, akin to academic faculties or departments), we offer advice to everyone who would like to carry out a PhD at RUB, and we support early career researchers during their PhD.

Mercator Research Groups
RUB has established two "Mercator Research Groups" as a result of a joint project with the Mercator Foundation. There are three to four young professors in each group, forming an independent research team, and they are supplied with state-of-the-art infrastructure, additional staff, and generous funding.

Research Departments
Cutting-edge research at RUB is aided by the flexible, interdisciplinary Research Departments (RD). The Research Departments are flexible units which forge links between the various disciplines and combine their excellence in interdisciplinary research.
