Japanese Week at the Rub
Japan and Germany – two cultures that have been closely linked for 150 years. In 2011, 150 years of friendship between Germany and Japan will be celebrated.
The RUB has been maintaining a scientific exchange with Japanese partner universities for more than 40 years. Scientists in the faculties of Medicine, Physics, Law, Biology, Social Sciences, Chemistry, Geography and many other disciplines are undertaking research with Japanese colleagues. Since 1965, the faculty of East Asian Studies has been carrying out intense research relating to Japanese culture, language, politics and economics.
This connection will be put in perspective from 21st - 25th November: During the course of the anniversary year, the RUB will host a Japanese Week, supported by the Hochschulrektorenkonferenz (HRK).
Learn more about the RUB's collaboration with Japanese partners in different scientific symposia, gain information about exchange possibilities for students and scientists at the Japan Info Day, prepare yourself for your research period in Japan at the Landesspracheninstitut's (LSI) two-day workshop, try out traditional Japanese art in the origami, haiku, ikebana and calligraphy workshops, take part in the karaoke night and enjoy Japanese food in the cafeteria.
The catastrophe which hit Japan on 11th March has aroused great sympathy at the Ruhr-Universität and we are grieving with our Japanese friends. The Japanese Week is also a means to strengthen the scientific exchange between the RUB and its Japanese partner universities and will confirm that it is well worth getting to know this country!
