Higher education entrance qualification (Undergraduate degree programmes)
Your higher education entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung, HZB) is your school leaving certificate or proof of studies already completed at secondary education level. To qualify for admission to Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB), you must be able to prove you possess the equivalent of the German Abitur qualification, which is the examination taken at the end of your secondary education.
You can find information related to admission and a database on the DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service) or Anabin websites. You will also be able to check whether your qualifications will be recognised as an HZB in Germany.
Application without the higher education entrance qualification
If you don't have proof of a higher education entrance qualification, you will not be able to apply directly to the university. First, you will need to take an assessment test, called the "Feststellungsprüfung". You can prepare for this test by taking classes at a Studienkolleg (these are government-run educational institutions located throughout Germany), or a special preparatory school.
Please note: In order to attend the Studienkolleg, you must prove that you possess German language skills roughly corresponding to level B1 of the "Common European Framework of Reference for Languages", and you can do this by submitting a DSH or TestDaF exam certificate. However, admission requirements vary, so it would be useful to contact the Studienkolleg directly and enquire about the language requirements.
Application deadlines: 15 May for the following Winter Semester and 15 October for the following Summer Semester.
The application procedure is described on the "Info sheet HZB" on the right.
