The language of teaching at Ruhr-Universität Bochum is German. However we also offer select international degree programmes which are taught in English. These international degree programmes set their own language requirements and have a separate application procedure.
In order to be able to study successfully in a german degree programme, a high standard of German language skills is required and a certificate from one of the following examinations can provide proof of this:
- TestDaF with the grades 4 x 4 or 16 points
- DSH examination (level 2 or 3)
Please notice: DSH examination from St. Augustin issued after 01 April 2014 will not be recognised at RUB anymore!
- ZOP examination, KDS, GDS or Certificate C2: GDS of the Goethe-Institut
- German language diploma - DSD - II
- ÖSD language diploma - C1
- Cerificatetelc Deutsch C1 Hochschule
- A completed degree programme in German Studies or Philology
Application without sufficient language skills
If you cannot provide proof of sufficient German language skills you can apply for a German course. Ruhr-Universität Bochum offers German courses, beginning at level A2. That means you already need to have some basic knowledge of the language. Level A1 has to be finished beforehand.
Please note: the German language courses have fees!
Applications can be submitted between beginning of December 2015 and 15 January 2016!. During that period you have the opportuniity to apply online for the preparatory language course at RUB.
Please fill in the required information at the online application and choose the field of studies. After having completed the application, you will receive a confirmation- Email and a fact sheet with your application number.
Print this sheet and send it – together with the stated testimonies and language certificates (at least language level A2) - until the end of application period to the international Admission Office.
